Things to See & Do
Cycling & Hiking in Provence
Where does one start. We are so spoilt for opportunities to walk, hike, run or cycle.
We hike regularly and have booklets available to borrow for 20 hikes all starting in or very close to our village, these include a gentle walk around the historic St Saturnin Les Apt to full day 20k hikes. These are all generally very well marked and of course there are many other routes to choose from, the beauty of our location being the ability to walk straight from ‘home’ into the hills. We are happy to offer help on routes and can also provide water bottles, rucksack, cold box etc
Although cycling is now David’s real passion, there is something different being alone on the bike taking in the stunning views from home passing through the lavender fields to Sault and up to the summit of mighty Mt Ventoux, a round trip of 105 kilometres with 2450 metres of climbing. There are the harder assents from Malaucene and the famous Bedoin, the chosen route of the Tour de France. Our area is ideally located to head south into the Luberon, north to Ventoux and the Gorge de la Nesque, west towards St Remy and in the east the Monts du Vaucluse. There is something for all levels of fitness from the vélo route stretching 37 kilomètres along the Calavon valley to Mont Ventoux at 1918 metres.
Over the last three years David has increased his knowledge of routes and has had great pleasure in helping guests plan their routes and if they require and time allows accompany them.
At our gites we have secure cycle storage, cleaning and maintenance equipment, whilst at Le Chene, there is a secure garage. We can arrange excellent cycle hire for reasonable cost including delivery and bikes of all standards including the increasingly popular battery bike.
One trend we have noticed among the non-cycling or hiking partners is due to our location within walking distance of the village they can easily fill their day exploring locally or just lazing with a good book poolside.
