Early July is the peak of colour in the Lavender fields that surround us.
Whilst I cycled it would be a very pleasant drive and encompasses some spectacular scenery.
From Saint Saturnin Les Apt I took the D179 towards Rustrel and then turned left onto the D34 which takes 12 kilometres to reach Lagarde d’Apt at just over 1000 metres altitude. From here continue and then turn left onto the D245 to Sault where on your left you will pass some magnificent fields as pictured below.
As you descend look out for this field on your left perfectly framed for lavender trails with Mont Ventoux in the backdrop.

My trusty Decathlon bike has proved an excellent investment costing abt 600€ and has so far covered 5000 kilometres.
After leaving Sault take the D942 to Aurel, just as you leave the village in the direction of Montbrun -les Bains there is the most perfect lavender field, pictured above.
Next stop Montbrun-les-Bains, famous for its spa baths, its worth stopping and walking around the village.
From here take the D189 to Ferrassieres, it involves quite a steep and dramatic climb with fabulous views of the North slopes of Ventoux as pictured below and above.
From here I headed back to Aurel, Sault and stayed on the D943 to Saint Saturnin .
As a ride its quite challenging but breathtakingly beautiful, take time to stop and take photographs and enjoy the silence and scents of Provence.
