One of their many successes was the construction of the bridge ‘Pont Julien’ dating to 3BC crossing the Calavon river near Bonnieux.
There are three wide arches, built this way to allow the torrents of water to pass. It may look a gentle trickle in this picture but we have witnessed ‘torrents ‘ in past years after successive heavy rainfall during the Autumn/winter.
Amazingly when we first moved here in 2005 we used to drive over the original bridge which means it was in use for over 2000 years!
Apart from the beauty of the bridge it is a central point to join the walking/cycle path which runs from Cavaillon to as far as Forqualquier.
One of the many fine Bastides that you will pass, whether walking or cycling it is a very pretty route and being flat ideal for all fitness levels and a great way to get close to nature and the glorious countryside.
